PEST MANAGEMENT REPORT

NEWS ABOUT INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT IN GLASSCOCK, REAGAN AND UPTON COUNTIES


 

GENERAL SITUATION

We have been receiving a little more rain this winter than we have seen in the past several years but we are still pretty dry over most of the area. Hopefully there is more to come soon. The pest management annual report is completed and copies will be available at the gins soon.

RESULT DEMONSTRATIONS

We are planning and have begun several projects in irrigation, pest management, tillage, weed control, varieties, etc... for the 2001 season. If you have suggestions or you are willing to be a cooperator in a demonstration, let us know.

CONCHO VALLEY COTTON CONFERENCE

The Concho Valley Cotton Conference is set for March 27, 2001 in the San Angelo Convention Center. It begins at 8:15 a.m. and will conclude at 4:50 p.m.. Topics included are: Crop Insurance Policy Changes, National Farm Policy, Cotton Prices and Several Conservation Tillage talks.

CONSERVATION TILLAGE FIELD DAY

When: Wednesday, March 28, 2001 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Where: Mitchell Jansa Home Place

We will look at conservation tillage equipment & methods and weed control. Equipment will be displayed and demonstrated.

Charles Stichler, Agronomist from Uvalde, will be here to discuss these topics and present demonstrations.

AGRICULTURAL WASTE
PESTICIDE COLLECTION
AND TEXAS COUNTRY CLEANUP

There will be a regional waste pesticide collection at Stanton(Martin County) on Thursday, March 29th, 2001.

It will be held at the Boll Weevil Eradication Program Office, 1 mile south of I-20 on Lamesa Hwy(east side).

These collection events are open to ALL Texas Residents FREE OF CHARGE.
All collections are from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

THEY CAN ACCEPT: banned or unwanted pesticides, properly rinsed plastic containers, used motor oil, oil filters, and lead acid batteries free of charge.

THEY CANNOT ACCEPT: Tire collections is not available at any of these cleanups. Empty plastic pesticide containers must be clean, triple-rinsed or high-pressure rinsed to be accepted. There is a two drum limit per a participant on oil filter recycling. Filters will not be accepted from businesses that change oil for a fee. All agricultural chemicals will be accepted excluding, pesticides or herbicides containing 2,4,5-T - Silvex (quantities less than 5 gallons can be accepted), biomedical wastes explosives, compressed gas cylinders, fertilizers, nutrient materials that are neither hazardous nor contain pesticide admixtures, pesticides or wood preservatives containing pentachlorophenol.
