PEST MANAGEMENT REPORT

NEWS ABOUT INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT IN GLASSCOCK, REAGAN AND UPTON COUNTIES

GENERAL SITUATION

Hot, Dry and Windy!
Insect populations remain light.
Most irrigated cotton looks pretty good!

SCOUTING PROGRAM

The scouts have located most producers and scouted their fields one time. If you have not been contacted please call. We will only scout about 90 fields this year because many farmers have no irrigated cotton and the dryland cotton has not emerged.

COTTON FLEAHOPPERS

Cotton fleahoppers ranged from 0-30 per 100 plants. The % square sets ranged from 82-100%. The higher fleahopper numbers were found in a patch of older pima cotton that is fruiting rapidly.

BOLLWORM

An occasional bollworm egg can be found.

BEET ARMYWORMS

Beet Armyworms are still scattered in very light numbers in area fields. No economic infestation can be found.

COTTON APHIDS

Cotton Aphids can be found in several fields in low numbers. One field in Reagan County has higher numbers causing some stunting of plants but predators are increasing rapidly and should control them.

JUMBO GRASSHOPPERS

Jumbo Grasshoppers are still present but numbers moving into fields have dropped considerably.

FALSE CHINCH BUGS

One field in Reagan County had 6-8 rows of cotton killed along a turnrow by false chinch bugs. This is the only location I know of with that much damage.

BOLL WEEVIL TRAP CATCHES

Boll Weevil activity remains very light. No weevils were captured in area traps. We did capture 7 weevils near a field in the Forsan area.
