PEST MANAGEMENT REPORT NEWS ABOUT
INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT IN GLASSCOCK, REAGAN AND UPTON COUNTIES |
|||
|
GENERAL SITUATION Hot and Dry! Showers on Monday ranged from 0-1.5 inches with most of area receiving none. Fleahoppers remain the most important cotton insect with several fields treated. Several fields are now blooming. SCOUT SAFETY If you treat the field the scouts are checking and the re-entry interval has not expired, please let them know so they will not unnecessarily be exposed to the insecticides. FLEAHOPPERS Fleahoppers continue to be present in economic numbers in several area fields while others continue to fruit well. Fleahoppers ranged from 0-18 per 100 terminals and square sets ranged from 76%-92% this week. We are getting near the time in many fields that fleahopper control is no longer advised. If you have younger fields that have economic fleahopper populations you need to make treatment decisions promptly. BOLLWORMS Bollworm egglay has increased slightly in area fields. The highest number was 10 per 100 plants or 5000 per acre. |
STINK BUGS We are continuing to see stink bugs in cotton fields at numbers higher than I would like to see for this time of the season. Most are green stink bugs at this time. BENEFICIAL PREDATORS Beneficial Predators ranged from 0-28,000 per acre with spiders, damsel bugs, pirate bugs and big eyed bugs most common. BOLL WEEVILS No weevils were captured this week in area traps and no activity was found in fields. PIXR Several
producers have been asking about applying PixR to their cotton. If
we set a sufficient fruit load on most fields and do not receive additional
rainfall, growth regulation will not be needed this year.
