PEST MANAGEMENT REPORT

NEWS ABOUT INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT IN GLASSCOCK, REAGAN AND UPTON COUNTIES

GENERAL SITUATION

Rainfall over the past 3 weeks or so has ranged from 1-8" across the area. Everyone is extremely thankful for this rain even though it will not affect yields much on this crop. Cotton is opening rapidly in area fields. Some of the first fields have been desiccated this past week and more will follow soon.

TRI COUNTY CROP TOUR

WHERE: Meet at St. Lawrence Hall
WHEN: Tuesday September 11th, 2001

2:30 Diapause Meeting
3:00-6:00 Tour Demonstrations(Variety, Defoliation,Salinity Management, and Phosphorus Applications)
6:00-7:00 Social and Meal

HARVEST AIDE TEST

We applied a test on August 29th on a field of drip irrigated cotton. We applied some defoliants of boll openers but more desiccant with other additives and at different rates. ParaquatR at mid-rates with surfactants looked like it was really desiccating well. We will be evaluating it further and will tour these plots on the September 11th tour.

BOLL WEEVILS

Boll weevil activity is still extremely light to non-existent. No weevils were captured this week across the area. We are trying to determine what to treat in a diapause program beginning later this month. We will discuss planned activities at the meeting on September 11th before the tour.
