General
Situation: Cotton
has grown well during this heat, that is where it has had sufficient
water. Scouting program fields ranged from 6.25 total nodes to over
9 nodes, with square retention rates being quite variable. |
Cotton Fleahoppers: Cotton fleahoppers are still a problem in area fields. In the fields where we are finding fleahoppers, they are generally nymphs. These little guys are smaller than aphids and sometimes very difficult to see. One most scout thoroughly, carefully examining the terminal for these tiny gray-green insects crawling within the newest growth. We are currently setting up a product test to evaluate several fleahopper materials. More information will be available next week. For details on how to scout for fleahoppers and treatment thresholds see the publications: "Managing Cotton Insects in the High Plains, Rolling Plains and Trans Pecos Area of Texas 2001" TAEX publication number E-6 and "Suggested Insecticides for Managing Cotton Insects in the High Plains, Rolling Plains and Trans Pecos Area of Texas 2001", TAEX publication number E-6A. These guide are available here at the office or on the internet at: http://insects.tamu.edu/extension/ag_and_field.html. |
