Vol. 2, No. 11
209 South Fifth Street, Brownfield, TX 79316
August 22, 2001

General Situation:
Hot temperatures and limited rainfall continue to speed this season's crop along. All but the best irrigated fields have shed everything except the larger bolls. While there remains a scattering of bollworm activity, it will be difficult for worms to survive with the lack of squares and fruit in the upper portion of the canopy. Open bolls have been seen in numerous area fields this week. Cotton aphids are absent from all scouting program fields. Peanuts continue to make good progress where water is plentiful. Spider mites and lesser corn stalk borers are showing up in area peanut fields, some at economic levels. Fields are so quiet it makes one wonder, "What have I missed?"
