IN THIS ISSUE:

* General Situation
* Upcoming Meetings

GENERAL SITUATION
Insects have diminished in number and importance for most all crops. Continue to watch late grain sorghum, and be warned about the potential for insects in early planted wheat. Cotton is safe from worms, aphids have all crashed (that I know of), and weevil damage is virtually non-existent. Early peanuts are just a few days from being dug, keep an eye on late peanuts for a few more days. Cotton harvest aids are generating the most questions right now. The following information has been a working document for a few years. This is information put together by Randy Boman, Wayne Keeling, Alan Brashears, and Todd Baughman. I have included only the decision making table for harvest aid selection. If you would like the complete 2002 Harvest Aid Guide give me a call and we'll get you a copy. I am currently spraying some tests, and have plans for several more over the course of the next several weeks. These will be located throughout Hockley and Cochran Counties. Call and we can give you a location nearest you. A few harvest aid meetings are already planned but more will come up over the next month. These will have opportunity to obtain CEU's as well. I do have results of previous years tests if you would like those as well.

UPCOMING EVENTS

September 12th - Harvest Aid Meeting, Spade Coop-Anton Division, Noon
September 14th - harvest Aid Meeting, 8 a.m., Hockley County Fairgrounds, Levelland

1 - Use on cotton with natural leaf shed. High rates can cause green, healthy leaves to stick. Always use a non-ionic surfactant when applying paraquat-based materials (Cyclone Max and Boa).

2
- No more than 32 oz total of Cyclone Max may be applied (in up to 3 multiple applications) in one season based on the Texas Special Local Need 24(C) label. No more than 38.4 oz total of Boa may be applied (in up to 3 multiple applications) in one season based on the amended federal label. The need for and rate of Cyclone Max or Boa in a second application will depend upon green leaves remaining. Use higher rates if regrowth is excessive.

3
- Tankmix partners with Cyclone Max include Accelerate, sodium chlorate, Folex/Def, and Leafall.

4 - Tankmix partners for Boa include Accelerate, Folex/Def, Harvade, SuperBoll, and CottonQuik.

5 - Ethephon-based material (such as Finish 6, CottonQuik, Prep, SuperBoll, Boll'd, Ethephon 6) activity is determined by rate and temperature. At lower temperatures, boll opening response can be enhanced by increasing rate.

6 - Always use crop oil concentrate with this combination and follow with paraquat-based desiccant 7-10 days later.
